The heart of our business is our wood. We are proud to state that we aim to source our timber as locally as possible, with the majority coming from the North of England. Our stock consists of wind-blown, dead, felled for good reason or reclaimed timbers making it sustainable.
Every tree we have is first milled using our horizontal bandsaw mill. The timber is cut into planks of various thicknesses; 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4+ inches. Naturally some beams get planked at 10 inch.
Once milled, it now needs to air dry. Time will vary depending on the thickness of the board. A 1 inch board generally takes 1 year so you can imagine how much time has gone into drying your furniture piece or beam!
Once is has been air dried for the appropriate time, it now goes into our kiln, this process can take 6+ weeks to further reduce the moisture content for modern day housing and their heating systems.
It is now ready for sale in the rough. Alternatively, we can also plane and thickness the plank to your requirements so it is flattened ready for working.
